Unattended Transient Acoustic MASINT System (UTAMS)

UTAMS is an acoustic sensor system created by the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) utilized to locate sources of impulsive signals and long range acoustics. The system consists of sensor stations linked via radio to a centralized base station.

Each ARL developed UTAMS sensor station reports acoustic detections to the base station software developed by ElanTech for processing, archiving, and display. The initial deployment of the UTAMS system required that the base station software be designed, implemented, and released in less than six months. ElanTech was able to meet this challenge, delivering the first software version within the specified time, and has continued to develop and support subsequent revisions.

  • ARL acoustic impulse detector (tuned for mortars & IEDs)
  • Over 30 installations deployed in theater
  • ElanTech provides the ground station software
  • Built on SAGE® architecture
  • Integrates ARL Detection Service
In support of UTAMS, ElanTech has further integrated other Unattended Ground Sensors (UGS) such as Expendable Unattended Ground Sensors (E-UGS), Battlefield Anti-Intrusion System (BAIS), and iScout®.
